About SUTW

Stitching Up the World ...One Stitch at a Time.

Stitching up the World (SUTW) is a group of volunteers that knit, crochet or sew items, giving back to others that are in need!

SUTW was started in March of 2010 and we knit, crochet or sew items that are then donated to different organizations. By March of 2024, our group has made and donated over 30,600 items!

Our main project is to make caps and lap blankets for patients undergoing chemotherapy at local Cancer Centers in NH. We support many organizations here in New Hampshire such as Families in Transitions, Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD), The Upper Room, Project Linus and internationally for Dress a Girl Around the World and Operation Smile. Our projects continually change so that we can provide these handmade items to those in need. Be sure to check out our full list on our tally & total items donated page.

We are always looking for new volunteers and new donations for this worthwhile cause. Please browse our links or contact us for more information.

Do you have items that you would like to donate?

First, thank you! Our group relies on the generous donations of individuals and companies and donations of yarn and supplies are always appreciated.

Currently we are much in need of fleece, flannel and cotton fabric donations. All colors and patterns are in need, but would greatly appreciate baby, children and Christmas prints. Donations can be dropped off at the Smyth Public Library or contact Lisa Cote to arrange pickup at 603-370-7439.

Please read our donation guidelines for more information.

Interested in joining?

Stitching Up the World meets each month on the 3rd Wednesday from 6 - 8 pm at the Henry W. Moore School. We are always looking for new volunteers to join our group. All levels of needlework are welcome.

What do we do at our meetings?

Our members share patterns, teach new volunteers, munch on a few snacks, and chat. And, of course, we are knitting, sewing and crocheting new items at the same time.

Don't know how to knit, sew or crochet?

Don't worry, we will teach you. It's easy and fun. Several of our current members did not know how to knit, sew or crochet when they started and now they can make hats, scarves and pillowcases quickly and with ease.

Would you like to contribute items but are unable to come to our meetings?

That's fine. We've had people as far away as Arizona donate hats for cancer patients. We gladly accept completed items and will make sure they get to the proper destination. Just contact us and someone will be in touch with you shortly.
